Keep workplace safety improvements going beyond October

Safe Work Australia is encouraging workplaces to follow through on safety discussions as National Safe Work Month 2026 ends. The focus is on choosing practical improvements and keeping safety a priority across the year.

In its 26 October 2026 update, Safe Work Australia asks workplaces to put ideas raised during the campaign into practice. The final week highlights the need for ongoing attention to work health and safety.

Workers and businesses are encouraged to look back at what they learned during October and decide which improvements to pursue. These could include changing how a task is done, improving consultation, managing a risk or providing better worker support.

The campaign activity kit includes exercises to help teams revisit their discussions and check the commitments they made. These activities can help workplaces choose useful changes to continue after the campaign finishes.

Safe Work Australia also encourages teams to watch the final campaign video, choose at least one ongoing improvement and plan practical steps for the coming months.

What this means for you

  • Use the campaign activity kit to review your team's safety discussions and commitments.
  • Choose at least one workplace safety improvement to continue after October.
  • Prepare a practical plan to carry those improvements into the months ahead.
